The online process for New, Upgrade and Conversion applications has now been updated and no longer includes the requirement for the PDF Checklist to be included with the other documents to be uploaded to the online application.
Please note that these changes will apply only to those who have completed the declaration on the checkout page when applying. If you have applied before these changes, you will still need to print and complete the checklist and send with the rest of your documents.
Following several requests from companies and individuals who cannot submit their applications using the DPVM grandfather route in the immediate future, we have been asked for an extension to the grandfathering route for DPVM qualifications beyond the current deadline of 30th of June 2023.
In agreement with the DPTEG, the Nautical Institute is extending the DPVM grandfathering pathway deadline until 31st December 2023.
What this means, is that for an application for DPVM certification to be eligible when following this pathway, the applicant will need to have passed the online exam on, or before, 31st December 2023. The applicant should then complete the 26 sea time days and task sections before submitting their application.
There will be no further extension.
Grandfather requirements are laid down in the NI Standard Volume 1 and Annex I.
The Nautical Institute works with Industry Stakeholders who recognise the importance of the mandatory CPD for the DPOs and DPVMs for their DP Certificate revalidation to improve their DP knowledge through a systematic approach to continuing professional development.

The Nautical Institute mandatory CPD requirements are in place from 1st January 2024. The DPOs and DPVM certificate holders must complete and demonstrate CPD during the five-year period of their certificate validity.
The current list of accredited CPD suppliers can be found on our Accredited Training Centres page.
