IMCA Dynamic Positioning CPD

The IMCA Dynamic Positioning Continuing Professional Development (DP CPD) programme has been developed as a valuable learning resource for key DP personnel, who perform a safety-critical role onboard offshore DP vessels. It is designed to help individuals maintain their technical knowledge of the latest industry guidance, regulations and operational best practice.

Who’s it for?

The programme enables Nautical Institute DP certificate holders to meet the CPD requirements for revalidation, but is also suitable for and available to other interested professionals.

What’s included?

The IMCA DP CPD programme is offered as an annual subscription, which includes a new learning module every six months, aligned to the requirements of the Nautical Institute certification scheme, plus access to previous modules from the five-year revalidation cycle.

Each learning module includes a range of interactive content based on six categories:

  • Regulations and guidance
  • Functional requirements
  • Knowledge enhancement
  • DP operations
  • Redundancy concepts
  • Testing and trials

Each module also includes access to IMCA guidance documents relevant to the learning content, including all revisions issued while your CPD subscription remains active.

You can also sign up for DP-related emails and access a range of related services through your IMCA Account.

Why choose IMCA?

IMCA, the International Marine Contractors Association, is the leading industry body for DP vessel operators. Our commitment to the safety of DP operations, and to the DP personnel who undertake them, stretches back to the formation of DPVOA, our predecessor organisation, in 1989 – DP is in our DNA.

IMCA has operated its flagship DP station keeping reporting scheme for over 25 years. Reports submitted from the global fleet are published through regular bulletins and annual reports for the benefit of the whole industry. These include anonymised analysis highlighting key risk factors along with lessons learnt. They also shape the development of industry guidance, drills and exercises through IMCA’s expert committees that have contributed to significant and continuing safety improvements world-wide.

The IMCA DP CPD programme is built on this foundation of comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge, experience and best practice.

IMCA Skills platform

The programme is offered through the IMCA Skills platform, which launched in February 2026 as the new home for professional learning and development content for the offshore marine industry. DP CPD content remains as previously published through the EdApp platform and will continue to be reviewed and updated, taking advantage of upgraded features in the new platform for an improved learner experience.

Learning content can be accessed via the web and on mobile devices, including the ability to download courses and work offline. Course completion can be shared and verified online with certificates and digital badges, with completion data also automatically registered with the Nautical Institute for its DP certificate holders.
